In honor of Homer Davenport’s legacy in the political arts, Homer Davenport Days hosts the annual International Cartoon Contest. All ages are welcome, no matter where you are in the world.
See below for the 2007 winners!
The collected entries of the 2007 contest were complemented by an extended exhibit featuring historical displays on both Homer and editorial cartooning, Homer-related merchandise (courtesy of the Silverton Country Historical Society), and live Homer storytelling by Gordon Munro of Firelight Stories.
Two non-profit groups were also located near the exhibit:
The GeerCrest Foundation, a new community supported farm group located at Homer's childhood home; and
Central Pacific Al Khamsa, a resource educating the public on Arabian Horses, including the coveted Davenport Arabian breed.
We would like to thank all of our cartoonists, judges, the organizations who they represent, and all the volunteers who helped make the Cartoon Contest exhibit a noticeable extension of Homer Davenport Days.
Hopefully, a similar exhibition will take place in 2008 and beyond.
Come back soon to learn when the contest starts up again for 2008.
Email the Cartoon Contest Coordinator for more information.

Judging was performed by representatives by the Silverton Appeal Tribune, the GeerCrest Foundation, Ourtown – Mt. Angel Publishing, the Silverton Country Historical Society, and Gus Frederick, the author of the collected volume Cartoons by Homer C. Davenport (limited annotated edition).
Judging was based upon three ten-point criteria: message and concept, artistic craft, and topicality. Each judge scored a maximum of 30 points per cartoon. Combined, each cartoon was eligible for 150 points. The winning cartoons reflect the highest point-takers.
The Public's Choice award was determined by traditional vote by the visitors to Homer Davenport Days. The cartoon with the most amount of votes won. |
